PRP Therapy and SMP a Perfect Pairing

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy and scalp micropigmentation (SMP) are two ways to combat hair loss that work well together. PRP therapy is a three-step process where your own blood is used to stimulate hair growth. PRP therapy isn’t new. It’s been around since the 1980’s, used as a way to treat ligament damage. However, using PRP as a hair loss solution treatment is a more recent discovery.

The platelet rich plasma is thought to stimulate natural hair growth by increasing the blood supply to the hair follicle. Some patients have success in preventing further loss, while others see increased but not total regrowth.

Because PRP therapy doesn’t necessarily re-grow all the hair, it is effectively paired with scalp micropigmentation. By combining the two hair loss solutions, you’ll have the appearance of fuller hair. (Due to the scalp micropigmentation that is used to full in thin spots.)

The Process

PRP therapy takes several treatments over about 6 weeks before its effects are seen. Your PRP doctor will perform a blood draw, spin your blood and use the platelet rich plasma to stimulate hair growth by injecting it into your scalp. Each appointment will take about an hour and although not completely painless, most people tolerate the procedure well. It has little to no recovery time.

Once you and your doctor feel that you’re seeing all the results they expect, you can consider using scalp micropigmentation to fill in the areas that are still thin. One of the experts at Tampa Ink will consult with you to discuss the sort of results you can expect from adding scalp micropigmentation to your PRP therapy results. This process works best on dark hair. SMP is two dimensional it’s not a substitute for real hair, but will enhance the appearance of your existing hair by changing the color of your scalp.

Benefits of Using PRP Therapy and Scalp Micropigmentation Together

Consider scalp micropigmentation a compliment to PRP therapy results. PRP therapy doesn’t always bring back all the hair. SMP isn’t a substitute for real hair. However, both together can give the appearance of a full head of hair. Scalp micropigmentation won’t stop additional hair from growing and it won’t be negatively impacted if more hair grows over time from the maintenance treatments of PRP therapy.
