Microblading vs. Micropigmentation – What’s the Difference?

Achieving flawless brows ranks high on most women’s and even men’s beauty regimens. Great eyebrows frame your face and effortlessly bring out the beauty in your eyes as well as other facial features. There have been great technological advances to help achieve that look.  Two procedures that have become popular for people with hair loss are microblading and micropigmentation.  Read on to learn more about the differences and similarities of these two procedures!

The Similarities between Microblading and Micropigmentation:

  • Both introduce ink, or pigment, into the skin.  This pigment gives the look of a fuller head of hair, or fuller-looking eyebrows.
  • Both procedures create this look without surgery which makes them more appealing.  These procedures are essentially scalp tattoos.
  • Both procedures are relatively painless, not more painful than a standard tatoo.

How is Microblading Different?

  • The pigment can last anywhere from a few months to a few years. This is largely dependent on how well after-care instructions are followed.
  • During microblading, the technician will cut a fine line of ink into the skin with a single blade.
  • The appearance is slightly different, as it mimics strands of hair.
  •  Used primarily for eyebrows.

What is Micropigmentation?

  • Micropigmentation is a more permanent hair thinning solution, as it can last as much as five years.
  • The technician achieves a more full-looking head of hair by using a technique similar to tattooing to embed dots of ink into the scalp or target area.
  • Micropigmentation looks like a closely cut shaft of hair, and mimics a shaved head of hair.
  • Men and women who have struggled with hair thinning, hair loss, FUT and FUE scars from hair transplants can benefit from this procedure.  SMP (scalp micropigmentation) can be used to cover up balding and thinning spots, and cover up FUT and FUE scars.
